Announcing the Third Annual Postcard Project Cookie Swap

Posted on

I just found out that your brain shrinks in the third trimester.  Like, literally.  I have a shrunken brain right now.  Now I’m not saying that’s why I’m going through with the this year’s cookie swap (I’m pretty sure my love of cookies and the Postal Service are the main culprits), but it might have a little to do with why I’d be hosting a swap during the time when I’m supposed to be giving birth.  Pregnant women be all crazy.  Lucky you! :)

If you’ve never heard of the Postcard Project, it’s something I started in 2011 to inspire people to send more mail in order to support the US Postal Service and also spread love and cheer.  The Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap coincided with the beginnings of my project, and it was perfect timing for me to jump in and organize one for non-bloggers, thus creating even more packages being sent through the mail…and spreading joy and cheer! Both goals of the project attained, thanks to the ingenuity of the bloggers (Lindsay & Julie) who created the original, highly popular, Food Blogger Cookie Swap.

This will be our third year for the non-blogger swap and I’m really looking forward to it!  The first year we had 52 participants and we shipped 162 packages of cookies.  The following year we had 72 participants and shipped 216 packages of cookies while also raising $3,574 for children’s cancer through the Cookies for Kids Cancer cookie swap matching program.  We also enjoyed getting to know each other, and sharing photos of the cookies we mailed and received on our group’s Facebook page (you will receive a link to the private page when you sign up).

Here’s how the cookie swap works.  1) You sign up.  2)  You get matched to three other participants.  3) You bake cookies and mail a dozen to each of your matches, and in return you receive a dozen from each. 4) You gobble up the deliciousness (sharing not required).  Fun, right?

Ready to sign up?

If this is sounding as good to you as it does to me, you can click here to get all the nitty gritty and sign up.  Let’s get this cookie swap party started!

Note: I’ll be back tomorrow with my pregnancy update, I had to delay it in favor of cookies today.  :)

About Veronica

I have a kitchen addiction and love to collect & share recipes. My passion is baking but I love to cook as well. The only thing I don't like to do in the kitchen is wash dishes, but my husband generally does them for me in exchange for his dinner.

    • I don’t know, I find it kind of amusing. I ended up laughing after saying a prayer earlier this week b/c when I came to where I wanted to pray for my friends and family, I coudln’t remember a single particular about who I wanted to pray for. So I had to say “please be with those who I can’t remember but need you.” It was the first time I couldn’t remember who to pray for! lol

    • Love it Isabel! And yes, you pick the cookies you want to make BUT there is a note on the sign up form about restrictions and allergies. Since there are so many with them, I sometimes have to match people who don’t have restrictions or allergies to those that do (though I do my best to match accordingly) and you are expected to honor those restrictions if you are matched to someone with them. No bacon on vegetarian cookies. :)

Seems to me your brain is working as good as usual…but great to know you have an excuse when you need one huh? ;-} I’d love to participate, but the time frame isn’t going to work for me. But you can be sure I’m going to continue thinking on this to see if I can possibly make it work. You are a gem to head this up…you prego woman you! =)

    • I think my brain is working as usual, but I’d argue the “good” part. LOL! No biggie if you can’t, and you might want to join the food blogger one if you’re able to b/c it’s more fun as a blogger to do that one since you share your recipes and everyone who participates can see it.

  9. Hi Veronica,

I was directed to your page from The Little Kitchen & Love & Olive Oil websites (fave bloggers!) as I’m not a food blogger (only on instagram). Few q’s
    1) Do all 3 dozen (to 3 participants we’re matched w/) have to be the same cookies?
    2) Do they need to arrive on a particular date?
    Thanks!

  10. Good luck with the baby. When do we send the cookies and get the addresses? I’m a blogger but not specifically a food blogger so I couldn’t do the regular one but this sounds just as fun.

  14. Love that you ladies are doing this, and so happy that Sunshine is getting us in on the mix!

That brain thing is crazy! Now if only the rest of us (who aren’t pregnant) could explain why we always lose the car in the Target parking lot!
