I follow a lot of blogs and some of them I rarely comment on (if I commented on every blog I follow it would be my full-time job), but will pin their recipes almost daily. Such as Plain Chicken and Jam Hands. Everything they post is like, “Oh that is the most fattening and delicious thing I’ve ever seen. I must make it!” FYI, I really love fattening recipes, especially right now. (And more and more am not loving sweet stuff! To the point that I almost would have rather died than taste the frosting on the last order of cupcakes I made, though I made myself do it to make sure it was good. I couldn’t tell if it was good, I hated it so much. Oh well, fat is better for you than sugar anyway.) This one isn’t fattening, but I won’t hold that against it because it is family friendly. And maybe that’s a better way to classify Ali’s recipes (she has two little girls). I love family friendly too, even if it doesn’t have a pound of butter in it.
I pinned Ali’s Best Ever Sloppy Joes over a year ago and finally made them recently. I have never made them from scratch so I don’t know if this is the best-ever recipe from personal experience, but it sure beats using a canned sauce! Totally delicious. I ate two sloppy joe’s for dinner the night I made this, and Dennis ate the rest of the pan! I think he had at least four! So I guess you could say this is husband-approved. Like I said, family friendly.
*I didn’t serve these with bakery fresh buns, but her instructions to do so reminded me I have an award-winning buns recipe I need to share! Will do that soon!
Best Ever Sloppy Joes

1 lb. ground beef
1 medium onion
1 tablespoon mustard
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon vinegar
3/4 cup ketchup
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped green or red bell peppers (I use a small bell pepper)
1/2 cup chopped celery (I used three stalks)
Cook ground beef and chopped onion. Drain fat off meat. Add back to large pan. Add remaining ingredients. Mix. Reduce heat to low and cook 40 minutes. Serve with fresh bakery buns.

YUM! These look delish for sure! My husband and I both LOVE sloppy joes although for some reason at my house we tend to call them, “Juicy Burgers.” Sometimes we even eat them open face with a fork! Mmmmm.

I remember your juicy burgers recipe and still have it saved! I have to admit I did eat the second on open-faced (I don’t like eating too much bread) but without a fork. It was super messy! :) Bun recipe is coming Friday. It’s simple b/c you use the bread machine.

I used to always make it from a can and I’ll tell you, I like them that way too! Comes together much faster if you’re in a hurry.

Looks like a yummy recipe! I used to make so many BBQ-y type recipes. The kids and I loved them. And one day, after about 20 years of wedded bliss, hubby told me he didn’t care for BBQ. WHAAATTT!!??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? So since the kids have left home, I rarely ever make it, though I love things like this. I just may have to make some and eat it all myself. =D Thanks for sharing. Pinning!

Wow he kept silent for too long, poor guy! What a sweetie for putting up with it for the sake of everyone else’s tastes. This doesn’t have a barbecue flavor but it does have the tomato base so maybe you would have to enjoy it solo. :)

I actually never liked the canned stuff growing up because it was overly sweet – I prefer making mine from scratch too, except no fricken onions. :D

And like Uru said, you can use other forms of protein for the meat if you want to make them for yourself – Boca crumbles would be most similar.

Totally good point, Veronica! I think I am a bad vegetarian because this meaty version looks much more scrumptious than anything with Boca crumbles! :) But I’d love to try it!

LOL! Boca crumbles ain’t too shabby but I have to say I’m partial to the real stuff, especially if I can afford to get local bison (my preferred substitute for ground beef). So much healthier, and the animals are raised nicely too.

Sloppy joes are the best, these look s delicious :D – I just use potato and soy or tofu instead of beef :)

I know, it’s totally freaky for me to lose my sweet tooth! But truthfully, it’s a blessing. It makes managing my blood sugar much easier – and that’s good for both me and baby.

I’ve made taco filling with lentils and have wanted to try sloppy joes with them but keep forgetting! I don’t like regular lentils but have found red lentils have a much milder, more pleasant flavor (to my palate anyway) so I really have to try it with them. I’ve got them in my cupboard right now!

Looks delish! I love both of those blogs too. They always have some tasty recipes to share. I’m all about the fattening foods too… but I don’t have pregnancy as an excuse lol! Uh oh!! I can’t believe you’re not diggin sweets right now though. I heard that there’s things you used to love while pregnant but can’t stand while pregnant… I guess sweets are that for you? And homemade is sooooo much better than canned FOR SURE!
