20 weeks: hissy fit time

Posted on

I have always been a bit of a drama Queen, though it has definitely improved with time, so I was prepared to be really out there once pregnant, totally emotional and irrational and unreasonable.  I’d heard all the stories from women who were normally level-headed that had turned into all the aforementioned things once pregnant.  Surprisingly, pregnancy has been nothing like what I expected.  I waited for the nausea and vomiting.  It never happened.  I waited for the tears and screaming, and they never came.  Happy, healthy, and solid, that’s me.

Until yesterday.

It was a long, tiring day.  Getting up early for church, cooking sticky sesame chicken legs for lunch, getting ready for our garage sale which is coming up way too soon, meeting Momma Donna to look at baby furniture, becoming overwhelmed with emotion and gratitude when she bought an entire set for us (my first case of emotional tears since becoming pregnant!), hauling it home, helping Dennis unload it, our evening church service, then snapping photos for this post before we lost our sunlight (my camera doesn’t take good indoor pictures and the flash washes everything out if I use it).  I felt drained as I looked at the pictures, and when I saw that in every single one my shirt was bunched up, creating a line along my lower belly, I lost it.  Like way lost it.  I turned into the pregnant woman from hell.

See, it looks like I have a belly button or a pointy baby foot poking out of my belly!

I screamed and yelled and made Dennis feel like the only worse thing he could have done besides not tell me that my shirt was unattractively bunched in all the pictures was kill our baby.  We went back outside to try again, but I was so mad I could not smile for the pictures.  I got mad all over again, realizing I’d eaten my lipstick off and forgotten to put my earrings back in.  I knew I was being ridiculous for being so angry about these superficial things, and hating myself for it made me even angrier.

Thankfully Dennis handled it well and I hope every pregnant woman has a partner as understanding as mine because otherwise, pregnancy might turn into the number one reason for divorce.

The yin to my yang, my laid-back wonderful fella. Still looking pretty trim at 20 weeks. :)

So we survived hissy fit number one, and I will do my best not to have another one until possibly childbirth, in which all bets are off.  I will hissy fit it up if it helps me get the baby out without killing someone!  In the meantime, please pray for my husband! lol

I’m such a dork. Somebody save me from myself.

And I just wanted to point out I’m half way through my pregnancy now! Wow, time is flying. I’m so glad we’re getting stuff out of here (garage sale-ing it up this weekend) to make room for Joshua, and already have his furniture to put in the room once it’s emptied.  *totally crazy amazing*  I’m ready to get my nesting on, even if it is a little early. :)  If you live in Wichita, I hope you’ll stop by if just to say hi! • She really is – I just thank God for her. It’s interesting b/c we’re each filling a void in each other’s lives – due to family drama she has been cut off from her grandchildren so she has become my surrogate mother and Joshua her surrogate grandchild. So cool how God answers prayers – sometimes not at all like you’d expect but always so awesome.

  4. Glad to know you normal and one of us now! I remember having a screaming fit like this over some wall paper in our daughters room (the stripes did not match) like she would know!

    • LOL, that’s something that would really irritate me under normal circumstances, but yesterday I would have burned the house down if we’d mis-hung wallpaper. ha!

  5. I think you’ve done amazing Veronica, and everyone is entitled to one or two hissy fits during pregnancy. I remember having one when I was getting ready to go to church and not one pair of shoes fit because my feet were so swollen. You look great and I’m so happy to see you so happy!!

    • At least you were mad at your feet, not a person! lol. I’ve noticed my feet have already “grown” at least half a size so I’ll probably be going through that soon too.

  13. I totally understand your hissy fit. I only remember being that way once with my first child and it wasn’t pretty either. After shaming myself I never did it again. We all do things we wish we hadn’t. All is forgiven in the end. You look great, by the way. Pregnancy agrees with you. Just keep smiling that smile.

    • I have to admit I’ve had similar fits like this before, but not as intense. Well, I once threw a vacuum cleaner into the bedroom door, leaving a permanent scar, because I was so mad that Dennis tracked mud into the house (lol, now our carpet is a permanent mud streak and I’ve long since stopped caring), but that was when I was in my early 20’s and still pretty volatile. I haven’t had a hissy like this in years! So ashamed. lol. I didn’t check my comments until after I replied so now you have your answers twice. haha!

  15. Well, I normally tell you that I am praying for you and your pregnancy. While that is definitely true, I think I might have to step it up for your dear husband! ;)

MAK is very laid back, too, but some days, he just doesn’t know what hit him. Poor guy. Thank God for clear-headed men who tell us crazies when we are being utterly ridiculous! :)

  18. What a gal you are! I giggled and smiled all the way through your post…the photos are awesome! It is awesome you have managed to keep your sense of humor…and I so agree – everyone is entitled to a hissy fit now and again. And since you’d been ‘saving it all up’…it’s only right it was a big one. Hang in there! You are doing great. Thanks for sharing and being transparent with those of us who love and adore you. XO

    • A sense of humor really can help you through so much! That’s one of the best lessons I learned growing up in my crazy messed up family. Despite all our issues, we could laugh our way through almost anything and it helped so much.

  22. Well, V…I didn’t see a “pointy baby foot” in your top even after you described it. I thought you looked lovely! But, all pregnant women deserve a hissy fit every once in awhile…heck, I have ’em and I’ve NEVER been pregnant! But, to my credit…I have “sympathy fits” for those, like yourself, who haven’t had any yet. See, I’m compassionate that way! Hahahahaha!!! You are among three of my foodie blog ladies that’s expecting, and me thinks you’re the only one being honest about this whole nine-months-of-being-two-people thing. So, enjoy all of it…the ups and the downs! Praying for you and Dennis and baby VC!

    • LOL, it’s all I can see! There’s a little point from the shirt’s fold that you can see against the white background. I’m way too much of a perfectionist, even when I’m not throwing a hissy fit, and it makes hissy fits more inevitable unfortunately. Thanks for throwing some sympathy hissy fits to make us pg women feel more normal! haha!

I think you look great in the pics…. so wouldn’t have noticed any bunching (still don’t!). OMG your hell hath no fury pic had me dying!! Thank goodness for Dennis too, I’ll pray for him lol!!
