Thankful Thursdays #65: Meet Baby-my first thankful vlog!

My car is one of my top ten thanksgivings and although I hadn’t planned on expanding any of that list beyond the top five, I thought it would be fun to show you guys how many issues Baby has (I know, what an original car name, right?) and still manages to get her basic job done *almost* every day.

Baby takes me to and from work five days a week, takes me to the grocery store, post office, and library every week, takes us to and from Abilene to visit Den’s family every holiday, totes us and bretheren who don’t have vehicles of their own to church and Bible studies, gives my other baby, Jessie, so much joy when we let her ride in the back seat (especially if we’re going through the drive-thru, her favorite ride), allows me to whisk my Dad off to his doctor appointments and stop by his house each week to divvy up his medicines and pay the bills, takes me off to my own doctor appointments for that matter, to vet appointments (though I can tell you Jessie is NOT thankful for that), takes my nephew and I off on various and sundry adventures (though last time that resulted in us being stranded an hour away from home when she wouldn’t start!), and takes us on most of our stay-cations to places in the surrounding area.  She has pretty great gas mileage (*supposedly* 36 mpg highway, though I’m sure it’s not that good any more), which is why we take her everywhere instead of Den’s truck.  (The truck’s name is Henry.  He’s a Ford.  :))  She’s a survivor–takes a lickin’ and keeps on kickin’. She’s had a hard life, but she’s a determined car.  And I appreciate her so much!  She is a very necessary part of my life.

So here’s my video, presenting my car in all her abused glory with eye bags and wet hair.  You know I never have a problem keepin’ it real.  Enjoy!

In case you’re wondering, no, my car won’t start if I don’t push the unlock button at the same time.  It doesn’t even act like I turned the key unless I push the unlock button simultaneously.  And because I’ve been starting it this way for four years, the unlock button now sticks and I have to very gently press the lock button after the car starts (you can see me do this if you watch closely) so that it doesn’t start spazzing out and making unlocking and grinding noises.  Craziness!

    • No, I had to have it towed to the shop b/c it wouldn’t start after we jumped it backwards. They figured out how to start it. It took them all day! I’m so glad though, I never would have thought the problem was something that wonky. lol

  2. Fun to see you “in real life” on the video! Baby sounds like a fun and quirky car! I’d also like to know how you figured out to push the unlock button at just the right time. Crazy! I can especially appreciate this “thanksgiving” of yours because since we moved to Russia (a little over a year ago) I haven’t owned or driven a car. It’s all about public transportation, or… when toting two kids… taxis. I do miss the freedom of jumping in and going anywhere so easily and quickly, so your post hits home with me as something I had previously taken for granted.

    • I was thinking about that, about people that don’t have this convenience. I have never had to use the public transportation system and I’m thankful for that-LOL! I explained how we found out how to start it in y reply to Mary above.

  3. Love the video and yes you’re lucky Baby still gets you where you have to go. I also was wondering how you figured out how to start it like that but, I see now…lol! The name of Dennis’ truck is too funny! My car’s rear defrost only works when it wants, it’s very finicky ;)

    • LOL! I almost wrote a special note just to you to tell you I’m wearing the bra genie in this video, but I didn’t want to draw attention to my chest. But yeah, that’s why my chest is so small–shrinks it up right nice! :)

  5. Hey, have you ever tried Marine Goop on your sunroof? It’s for fixing leaks in boats and stuff. I used it on my Neon and it worked fantastic! :)

    • No, I never heard of it! I’ll get that. Do you have to reapply it every year?

      • I only used it once. The seal around my taillight was bad, so every time it rained my trunk would get wet and moldy inside. Made the whole car smell! We slapped some Marine Goop around it and I drove it for several more years and never had a problem again. You should try it. I know you can buy it at Walmart.

  7. You kill me! Really!

We will keep a vehicle until we have to roll it to the dealership, junkyard, etc. to get rid of it. Seriously. I once had a car in HS that I had to take off the air filter and spray some stuff in the carburetor before we could get it to start. I don’t remember what we sprayed in it but we started a fire once too. Loved that car though.

    Keep on truckin’.
