One Ingredient Ice Cream

Posted on

Just on the off-chance that I’m not the last person to try this nifty idea, I thought I’d post it since the heat index makes it relevant.  The only ingredient in this “ice cream” is bananas.  It’s pretty amazing that frozen bananas mimic the texture of ice cream so perfectly.  This stuff is delicious and perfectly sweet, so nothing else is needed, but I can’t wait to try adding chocolate, peanut butter, Nutella, etc.  Enjoy!

Ingredients:
Bananas (about 1 per serving)

Directions:
Peel and chop bananas into 1 inch slices.  Place slices in a Ziploc bag and freeze until completely hard.  Place them in the bowl of a food processor and process until creamy.  You will probably have to stir the mixture to check on it because sometimes the cold pieces look like they’re not mixing, but when you stir it gets creamy.  Scoop into a bowl and eat!

  1. That’s crazy that bananas look exactly like ice cream! I have never heard of this before. How easy is that!?! Thanks for sharing :)

    • The texture is spot on, too! The best part is that it’s so healthy. It feels like you’re eating something decadent but it’s just bananas! Too cool.

  2. I’ve seen this on a few health food blogs that I read and was always intrigued. Maybe I’ll have to make it the next time I have bananas. I bet this would be a great after school snack for my kids!

  4. wow…where have I been all this time? It is always great when you can turn a nutritional zero (dessert) into a light healthy snack! I am suprised you grind it after its frozen. I guess I am always scared to break my machine. Then again, smoothies with frozen fruit are safe.

I wonder how it would be with some other stuff, like frozen berries or watermelon cubes tossed in?

    • The bananas don’t harm the food processor at all, so don’t be scared. You can always cut the slices thinner, which will be easier on the processor. If you added other fruits it would most likely lose it’s thick “ice cream” consistency and turn more into a smoothie, but that’s good too!

This is a great, easy “ice cream.” I wonder if other frozen foods, like liver or fish, would work as well?
