17 weeks: reasons it rocks to be pregnant

Posted on

I really love being pregnant.  At least I do for now.  :)  I might be singing a different tune come 38 weeks.

Top 10 reasons it rocks to be pregnant:

1. No period. Duh.

2.  It means you’re going to have a baby. Duh.

3.  People will give you maternity clothes or loan them to you when they find out you’re pregnant.  Unlike when you suddenly gain weight and have nothing to wear, when you’re pregnant you suddenly find yourself rich in new clothing without having to spend much.  Loves.

4.  You finally have an excuse for your pot belly.

5.  You no longer have to suck it in to look good.  Somehow you can look even better if you pooch your stomach out even further.  Awesome.

6.  Your boobs get huge(r).  Duh.

7.  In many cases (mine included) your hair gets thicker and shinier, and nails grow faster and get stronger.

8. You need 500 extra calories a day.  Yay for more food!

9. You’re not supposed to lift heavy things.  Which means you can get out of lifting heavy things when helping your sister move. Sweet.

10.  Your husband is so grateful for you doing all the hard baby-making work that he will do nice things for you like rubbing your tired feet at night before bed. *happy sigh*

“For this child I prayed, and the LORD has granted me my petition that I made to him.” Hannah ~ 1 Samuel 1:27

Just so happy right now. :)

About Veronica

I have a kitchen addiction and love to collect & share recipes. My passion is baking but I love to cook as well. The only thing I don't like to do in the kitchen is wash dishes, but my husband generally does them for me in exchange for his dinner.

  1. And EVERYONE wants to help the pregnant lady – to hold the door, carry things, let you cut in line, etc. I eventually learned to enjoy being pampered. After all, you only get a few months of it!

  2. You look wonderful sweetie and so happy !
As for getting no period, you won’t generally, if you breast feed. Some women do ( I didn’t )and it is called dirty nursing, why I don’t know.
I breast fed for four months.
As for the breasts getting bigger, yah well, if you nurse you might find yourself from a B to D and it never goes back to a B and then ( me again ).

  5. Enjoy every minute of the fuss being made over you! But most of all take TIME for you and start now. Go to the salon, made it a ritual, nail, toes, hair facial. Because later you will want it and this time will be hard to find.

  9. I especially hear ya on not having to suck in the belly. It was so liberating! It’s one of the things I REALLY miss . . . now I have to pay attention again and make sure I’m not letting it all hang out after a big meal. Oh well. =)

    • I forgot to talk about the outfit (or anything else–oops)! The pants are from Mama Donna, and the shirt is on loan from cousin Jessica. Yay for cute maternity clothes that I don’t have to buy!

    • It’s one of my favorite shirts. I got several Old Navy maternity shirts, including this one, from a cousin and those are all my fave. I think I need to go shopping at Old Navy–it’s apparently my style.

  24. girl, I am sooooo happy for you. and this post is so funny and so true. only thing I did not like was the list of food items i could not eat because of the baby, like parma ham and soft cheese (like brie). do they give you lists in US as well?

    • Yes but apparently the forbidden foods vary by region. I’ve heard of peanut butter being off limits in some areas! I’m not supposed to have sushi, deli meat, or alcohol. The only one I cheat on is the deli meat – I usually eat a couple sandwiches a week with deli turkey or ham on them. We can have any kind of cheese though -yay!

I saw your above comment… no sushi or deli meat?!?!?! And no alcohol?!?! I knew the no alcohol part duh, but man 9 months without all of those things…. only a beautiful baby could make that worth it! :) Getting caught up now… hope the pregnancy is going perfect!

    • I have to admit I eat deli meat almost weekly so that’s definitely not one I’m following, but my Dr. never said it was bad, I just read it elsewhere so I don’t think it’s too big a deal. Just not the healthiest meat choice, and of course most books will only advise eating the absolutely healthiest foods to benefit baby.
