Quacking Up With The Millers

Despite all the teasers I’ve been giving you in the recipe department lately (deodorant, red velvet cake, butterscotch swirl cake, etc., etc.), I am not ready to post any of them because I have no photos.  The photos of my deodorant-making process were accidentally deleted (along with butterscotch syrup pics that I needed for the butterscotch cake-oy!), and I have to make the cakes I promised recipes for a second time because me being me, I can not possibly post a recipe using only photos of the cake in a box, and the only picture of the inside being a stale piece behind glass in low-lighting on a paper plate.  I may not use a fancy-schmancy camera, but I do have some standards.  I’m sorry to those of you who could care less about the quality or lack of photos, but please be patient while I re-make everything and take more photos.  Thank you!

While I do have other recipes with photos I can share, I thought I’d change things up and share a video I shot in the poultry exhibit at the Kansas State Fair last Monday instead.  They have such interesting birds in there, and I’m only showing you a smidgen of them.  Usually we skip the poultry exhibit because birds aren’t as cute to look at as other animals, but we had so much fun in there (maybe a little too much–we are easily amused, as you will see) , it is now my new favorite exhibit.  I hope you enjoy!

About Veronica

I have a kitchen addiction and love to collect & share recipes. My passion is baking but I love to cook as well. The only thing I don't like to do in the kitchen is wash dishes, but my husband generally does them for me in exchange for his dinner.

  1. I certainly don´t mind waiting for pictures, as to me pictures are important and it´s lovely to see you care for not only your recipes, but for your readers as well :)

    • That’s nice of you to say, Michaela. I never know what my readers will think, whether they’re more interested in the recipe than having nice pictures, but I think that if I’m going to share a good recipe for everyone to see, both the recipe and you all deserve to have it well-represented. Who wants to make a cake when you can’t see the moist insides in proper lighting? :)

  3. So this is completely unrelated to your post, but I totally dreamt about you last night. I dreamt that I was at your house, and you had a bunch of rowdy brothers, and you were baking a cake. Then I realized that I also had to bake a cake. Thankfully you gave me a yellow cake and told me all I had to do was frost it. So I started mixing this delicious white fluffy frosting with a jar of mango sauce, and talking about how peach preserves in the middle would be perfect.
I can explain the mango-peach combination because at the factory where I’m an office manager we make a punch flavor called mango-peach. But the rest of the dream is a mystery.

  4. LOL. This was so funny. I can’t believe you actually sang that chicken to sleep at the end.

Sounds like you had a lot of fun at the state fair.

  5. I will have to show this to Ry when he wakes up from his nap. He had a field day with the chickens at the apple orchard this weekend. :)

  9. Now you can say that your voice was magical chicken sleeping powers. That would be cool because people wouldn’t know what you meant.
Because they wouldn’t know what you meant by that they would start to make up stories. The stories would grow and become myth then myth turn to legend.
The legends would become song and many a minstrel would sing of “Veronica and her chicken voice.”

  10. I never knew chickens could be be so cute and cuddly too until we got some for pets a few months ago. They were only 3 days old when we got them. now they’re about 6 months and as cute as can be. Their names are Mrs. Brownie, Mrs. Chubby, Mrs. Fudge, Tweedle-Dee, and Tweedle-Dum. We love our chickens! They wander about in the yard and wander to the neighbors’ yards too so i guess u can call them neighborhood pets. The boys have to herd them home all the time but they go running- er, i mean waddling, home right away. They know their way home very well and at night, they go back into their coop on their own. So we’ve been getting organic eggs from cage-free and free-range chickens at no cost! LLooove it!!!!!!

    • That is so cool! I’ve thought about getting some chickens too, but I just don’t think we can sacrifice any of our back yard since it’s pretty small and Jessie needs it to run around in. We are SO getting them when we move!

      • i forgot to tell u that we had a rooster too until last weekend. his early morning neighborhood wake-up call never bothered us cuz we have too much indoor noise going on to hear him but last week with the cooler weather, we were able to sleep with the windows open. and well, then we found out just how much of a nuisance he was to our neighbors!! u dont need room at all girl! well just enough room for a little coop. Just let them wander about! they’ll be healthier for it!
